On behalf of the Canadian Urban Libraries Council (CULC) Digital Content Working Group, we are pleased to announce the selection for 2023’s One eRead Canada initiative is Tatouine by Jean-Christophe Réhel, translated by Katherine Hastings and Peter McCambridge from the original French, Ce qu’on respire sur Tatouine. Mark your calendar as we bring you this national, bilingual digital book club April 1 – 30, 2023.
WE WILL SEND REGISTRATION INFORMATION IN EARLY JANUARY.
We are excited to be working on this initiative with publishers Del Busso, QC Fiction and ECW Press, as we further demonstrate the positive impact of libraries and advocate for better access to eContent.
Further information about the 2023 One eRead Canada program will be available soon. We intend on a public announcement about the title in the new year through the One eRead Canada website and social media channels. For your library’s own advance planning you are welcome to make use of this information to promote the program.
To whet your appetite, here’s a review of Tatouine:
“Réhel gives the reader a front-row seat to a baroque and often hilarious interiority – one that highlights the complexity and tragedy of the human condition, while playfully revealing the capacity of the human mind for turning the struggles of existence, large and small, into a source of amusement. […] In addition to the often-dark humour, Réhel has a poet’s eye for rhythm, repetition, and stark imagery that thankfully isn’t lost in the exceptional translation by Katherine Hastings and Peter McCambridge.” Dean Garlick, Montreal Review of Books
